Hi Dave thanks for taking the time out for speaking with us here at Porn Star Interviews and just for our readers who don’t know, Dave worked not only behind the camera but also in front of it too, getting paid to fuck porn stars. Hopefully Dave will be able to give us the inside track on what the porn industry was like from all sides including the soft core work for magazines like Fiesta and the hardcore mags like Color Climax.
What’s great about having this chat with you is that you where you working in the adult industry at the time which most of our readers like the most, namely the mid 80’s. So tell me how did you get into the business, was it something you planned on or did it just happen by chance?
A bet! One drunken boxing day in 1982.
So, you’ve bet your pals how did you find who to talk to?
The bet was with a mate who was in the army stationed in Germany and had access to porn, unlike us Brits back then, he brought a mag back with an ad in it looking for girls actually but bet me to answer it. The magazine was a copy of Private
Did you have to audition for the job and if so what did you have to do?
Nope. I received a telemessage asking me to contact a woman called Sheila in Coventry (with no indication of who it as from either) but because it was a woman I called her she said you wrote a letter to Private magazine. Yes, I said sheepishly. Well she said for now we want you to send us a pic and if we like it we’ll be in touch and if we don’t we won’t.
So obviously they like the pic.
About 10 days later she called me and asked me what I was doing next week, I said nothing planned so she invited me to Spain I said I can’t afford that and she said we pay - you idiot!
Ha Ha. Nice one.
So off to spain I went met by old man Milton (Berth Milton the owner of Private magazine) in his soft top roller me and two girlies.
So off you go and set and what, just get straight down to it?
Nope. First I was quickly dumped at the bottom of a big block of flats and told another bloke will be along soon with a key, this is where you’re staying. About a fuckin hour and half later he did turn up. It was another male model.
Anyway onto the work. The next day I had off to ‘prepare’. BUT that day the girl I was to work with walked thru Miltons patio door.
Did you feel unwanted or was that just an accident?
No permanent damage but lots of cuts and bruises etc.
So we all got sent home after 3 days of doing nothing. So I didn’t even get a shag but Sheila kept my # and I awaited her contact the guy who kept me waiting also kept in touch and he put in touch with Roy Stuart a few weeks later.
Did you do a first shoot for Private then or was it another title?
No it was for a book called ARTCORE shot in Brocket hall.
And Artcore was a hardcore shoot?
Yes. A massive country mansion as well.
Can you remember anything about your first shoot, I mean you must have been as nervous as hell?
Yep worried about shooting me load too soon etc. So just before I went, I had a quick wank, and then I was fine. Rock hard all the way, popping on cue, couldn’t have been any better really, girl wasn’t fantastic but ok.

So, you’ve gone to your new job. Shagged a bird and what, when you’ve finished they paid you?

You’ve worked for some of the biggest names in the business like Color Climax and Private and at that time these titles were at their peak, what was the atmosphere like?
Well I look back now and realise that they were great days indeed. Traveling around gettin paid to fuck pretty girls who you’ve just been introduced to no romance, chocolates, flowers or fuck all. And money was brill.
Your stage name was Lee Francis, how did that come about?

So, here you are; you’re now a porn star. Our readers would love to know how normal this job was. I mean did you clock on and work a 40 hour week or did you just get a phone call when they needed you for a photo shoot?
Yeah that was the problem always. You could work every day for a couple of weeks and then nothing for a couple of months. There weren’t many doing hard core back then because of the grey area of it’s legalness. Here (the UK) only Roy Stuart and Iver Cooke for private.
These two guys where what? Photographers or agents?
Togs. Sheila was the only unofficial agent
Right. So you turn up for work and they say to you “Dave can you shag Lisa Philips for us today” I mean it sounds like a great job but when you find out who you are going to be working with were you sometimes really excited at the prospect at getting it on with a porn starlet or did some of them turn you right off?
Yes that’s why I didn’t do as many as most. I never ever put myself in a position where I might fail and I never did. Girls that show some kind of affection are the best. Otherwise a big pair of tits usually worked for me.
Ha Ha. So you could say that even porn studs like yourself have feelings!
I did but most don’t or shouldn’t. You should be able to shag anything. If I didn’t fancy the girl I wouldn’t do it.

When the shoot had finished did you ever go out with any of the girls to have another shag but this time in private?
Yeah sometimes but not as often as I would have liked or not as often as people think.
Taking for example a normal magazine shoot say for Color Climax how many days would you need to work to complete the shoot ready for publication?
2-3 hours.
Now later in your career you switched and became the photograhper rather than the star. Was that just a natural progression?
Yeah kind of. I’d done photography at college and told Roy Stuart call me if he needed help and he did, so it started with him in about 85, so early on in my career really.
Now you probably couldn’t have had a better mentor than Roy Stuart as he was one of the best. Would you agree?
Absolutely. Although back then we were quite poor to start of with.
Now someone told me that you developed the way that Private magazine captured the cum shot. Is that true?
Na, not really I just got to be pretty good at getting it.
Legend has it that Andrea Clarke did her debut hardcore shoot for Private did you take those shots?
Yes.
Is it true that the guy you used in the photoset was just picked out in a bar and asked if he’d like to fuck Andrea?
Yes by me. We didn’t have a stud for her. We were in a bar and I told her to pick someone out. Andrea did, so I went over to him and asked him if he’d like to fuck her. Guess what his answer was - I said there was a catch though!
I told the guy with Andrea that he’d have to do it in front of my camera.
I know now that a lot of work you do today is for the big tit market. Is it true that you discovered Traci Topps?
Yes, John Graham and I were in Toronto shooting two other girls and we were in another bar and she was dancing on stage.
So what exactly do you say to a girl who you think will make a porn star? I mean how come you don’t get a smack in the mouth.
You only approach girls in glamour not girls in street, or word of mouth, reputation etc.
